The Science

Shattering the Dogma

“The enemy of science is not religion. Religion comes in endless shapes and forms… The true enemy is the substitution of thought, reflection, and curiosity with dogma.”
– Frans de Waal

As previously stated, nothing is more controversial in the world of contemporary Science as arguments surrounding the Mind / Consciousness, or “The Big Problem” as it is often referred to.

The doctrine of materialism that has dominated scientific debate for nearly 300 years and is not giving up its ground without a fight. However change is taking place in the light of new understanding and bodies of evidence that support it. As the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer famously put it;

“All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”

conscious_brain_`The prevailing scientific view of mind is that thought – mental activity – is nothing more than an epiphenomenon, a bi-product of the bio-chemical activity of the brain . . . and that each individual “mind” exists exclusively tucked away inside its owners head, isolated from all it surveys and considers!

When I first became aware of this understanding some years ago, having at that time worked with many, many clients whose experiences, not to mention my own personal experience , was diametrically opposed to this view, I was truly amazed. That supposedly intelligent people working in the sciences could really believe this dogma truly astonished me, I had to go and check, and yes, it was true!

Happily, further research began to reveal a very different and much more satisfying story that encompassed all of the phenomena I had encountered, and while not yet complete, provided a description of Mind / Consciousness much more in line with my own experience and that of my clients.

Please allow Cambridge biologist, Rupert Sheldrake, in his own inimitable fashion, addresses some of these issues in an excellent presentation entitled:

The Extended Mind:

Rupert Sheldrake is just one of many Scientists and researchers around the world who are revealing a much more satisfying understanding of the Human condition. You will find much of their work on the pages of this website. Please take some time to explore and become aware of how this new emerging paradigm effects individuals and communities all over the world.
